An Urban Tree House

We liked Erin Donnolley’s article for Azuremagazine.com  on a proposed  condominium project that architects believe Toronto would be the ideal location for.   The building would be constructed from sustainable materials in an offsite facility and transported as finished units and craned into place forming a Tree Tower.  The entire building would be clad in timber and each unit  would have a lush exterior patio garden with trees and vegetation to offer privacy and peaceful views alluding to a forestry exterior instead of the urban jungle it will be located in.  Read the entire article here  and sign up for our blog!

Hope for Ontario Place

The long anticipated revitalization of Ontario Place has been one of fits and starts.    The planners’ original “open by” date  of July 1, 2017 ( in time for Canada’s 150th birthday celebration),  has come and gone, and the park still remains a shadow of its former self.  The one exception is the re-imagined Trillium Park at the eastern edge.  A whole new landscape has been crafted to reveal beautiful walking trails, rain shelters, rock climbing areas, and plenty of places to just sit and relax.  The opening of Trillium Park is a welcome addition and the first step in breathing life back into Ontario Place.  We can’t wait to see the finished product.  Click on the link for the story and to sign up for our blog. Going to the dogs

There has been so much talk about the newly created Berczy Park and its wonderfully whimsical dog fountain.  It is a well designed space that adds fun and functionality to a previously underused and underappreciated piece of downtown real estate.  Read more here and then visit the relaxing space with or without a canine friend.

How Green it Is

 

The impact of global warming is happening now, and Grove Project Management is proud of our commitment to ensuring our projects meet and exceed current environmental standards and recommendations.  Our Fallingbrook project located on Kingston Road in the Beach, is one such project which successfully incorporated a green roof into the design.  The project which was completed in 2009, was the first condominium building on Kingston Road to effectively integrate green roof technology into its build.    Science is still perfecting this technology every day and Grove will be striving to utilize this vital tool while incorporating other key green standards into current and future projects.

Life is not always a Beach

With the recent flooding and the lake at record high levels, many people seeking a respite from the heat may be well advised to check the water before venturing in.  Pollution, contaminants and the inability to accurately monitor the water quality of Lake Ontario until water levels recede,  are giving cause to close many beaches and the City of Toronto is advising people to avoid diving in.    Read more here and check the status of the water quality at  your favourite beach before taking the plunge.

Local artists are invited to submit their entries for consideration for the murals to be featured as part of the Bell Box Murals Project.  The deadline for submission is Friday, June 30th, check out the requirements for submission in the flyer above.

BEECH HOUSE UPDATE

Our Beech House project is progressing well and we are anticipating reaching the 1st floor level by late summer.  We are looking forward to the building shell being up and enclosed by early 2018.    The team is  working diligently to qualify the Beech House for the Toronto Tier II Green Standard and we are all excited to be  part of this green initiative.   This voluntary commitment to higher environmental standards than the mandatory Tier I Green Standard has a rigorous list of must-do’s in order to qualify.   To read more on this program,  click here

GM Mobility Hub

GM has submitted plans for a 7 acre, 882,540 sq. ft. centre on Eastern Avenue with front facings to Lakeshore Avenue East.   The development will house 2 GM dealerships, a sales and marketing centre, research and development facilities as well as a service centre.  It will also be able to accommodate 3,000 new jobs.  Find out more by clicking here

Urban Repair

Chief City Planner, Jennifer Keesmaat speaks to the issue of “urban repair” in an article in the National Observer.  Her thoughts on regaining whole communities, reducing arduous commutes, and lessening the ever-increasing problem of congestion in the core are insightful and informative.  Read more on how Ms. Keesmaat identifies the problems and offers viable, albeit measured solutions to the problems the City of Toronto and its bordering communities are experiencing.
